New Summer Classes, Instructor Workshop, and Why Rescue Skills Matter

As summer approaches, Swimdo is gearing up for a busy season.

Thanks to growing volunteer support, we’re opening an additional class to reach more children across Bali. To ensure every session stays safe and effective, we’ve also expanded our team, hiring new assistant instructors and bringing together volunteers from near and far, including Niamh from the UK.

This week we ran a full-day instructor workshop covering Swimdo’s daily procedures, our Emergency Action Plan, and class safety protocols. The training reinforced essential rescue and first aid skills, practical risk assessment for poolside teaching, and clear communication routines so instructors can respond quickly and confidently in an emergency.

A major theme of the workshop was the reality of public-pool safety in Bali: many facilities operate without trained lifeguards on duty. Our instructors regularly encounter swimmers in distress and, on several occasions have had to perform rescues. Those experiences make rescue training non-negotiable; every instructors must be able to recognize early signs of drowning and act safely and effectively.
We’re proud of our team’s commitment to keeping children and communities safe in and around water. If you’d like to support Swimdo’s program by volunteering, becoming an instructor, or donating to help fund our swimming classes and equipment, please visit swimdo.org. Together we can give more children who don’t have access to lifesaving and water safety education the confidence and skills to enjoy the water safety.
